Robert Nicholas Delaloye, known to everyone as Nick, passed away in Austin, Texas, leaving behind a lifetime of love, laughter, adventure, and memories that will be cherished by all who knew him. He had a rare gift for making people smile, finding humor in life’s ups and downs, and reminding those around him not to take life too seriously.
Nick was born on April 10, 1952, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. From an early age, he had an easygoing spirit, a quick wit, and a warm heart that drew people to him. He loved a good story, enjoyed making others laugh, and was always ready for the next adventure, whether it was on the water, in the woods, or simply spending time with the people he loved.
For more than 40 years, Nick worked as a geophysicist in the oil and gas industry. He was intelligent, hardworking, and deeply dedicated to his profession. Those who worked with him knew him as someone who could always be counted on. He approached every challenge with patience, integrity, and quiet confidence, earning the respect and friendship of many throughout his career.
Nick was a man of Christian faith, and his beliefs shaped the way he lived his life. He believed in treating others with kindness, lending a helping hand, and being there for the people who mattered most. His faith was reflected not only in what he believed, but in how he cared for others every day.
Nothing brought Nick more peace than being outdoors. He loved fishing and hunting, not just for the sport, but for the time spent with family and friends and the memories made along the way. Whether he came home with a great catch or simply another story to tell, he always found joy in the experience. His stories often grew a little with each telling, but that was part of what made listening to Nick so much fun. He had a way of turning ordinary moments into unforgettable memories, and his laughter was contagious.
Above all else, Nick loved his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Deanna Lucas of Austin, Texas; his son, Ryan Delaloye of Mustang, Oklahoma; his stepdaughter, Kayla Vega of Austin, Texas; and his stepson, Clinton Lucas of Austin, Texas. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Abby Porter of Katy, Texas; Aiyla MacMurray and Aeymon Watson, both of Rosenberg, Texas; and Jamie Jordan Pear of McKinney, Texas.
Nick is also survived by his sisters, Ann Robinson of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Jane Parish of Springdale, Arkansas; and Sarah Delaloye of Springfield, Illinois; as well as his brother, Steve Delaloye of Grand Junction, Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his father, August Delaloye; his mother, Lucy Cook; and his beloved son, Jordan Delaloye.
Nick’s greatest legacy is the love he shared with those around him. He was a devoted husband, a proud father and grandfather, a caring brother, and a loyal friend. He showed his love through the little things—a helping hand, a shared laugh, a thoughtful conversation, or simply being present when someone needed him. His family will forever remember his sense of humor, his adventurous spirit, and the way he could brighten even the hardest days with a smile.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Nick will remember a man who lived with generosity, compassion, and joy. He made people feel welcome, loved deeply, and found beauty in life’s simple moments. His laughter filled rooms, his stories brought people together, and his presence made the world a little brighter.
Although Alzheimer’s disease gradually took away many of his memories, it could never take away the life he lived or the love he gave. That love lives on in his family, in the countless stories shared around dinner tables and campfires, and in every smile sparked by the memory of him.
Nick’s life was one well lived. He worked hard, loved deeply, laughed often, and left this world better than he found it. His memory will forever be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.
